Choosing a System

What is the difference between Senville LETO and AURA?

Think of it this way:

  • LETO = great value for one room and mild to moderate winters.
  • AURA = premium performance for colder climates and multi-room setups.

LETO Series (SENL/CD):

  • Single-zone only (one outdoor unit + one indoor head).
  • Heats down to about 4 °F / −15 °C.
  • Pre-charged with R454B for up to 25 ft of line.
  • SEER from 17 to 21.5 depending on model.
  • 5-year warranty on parts and compressor.

AURA Series (SENA/HF):

  • Available in single-zone and multi-zone.
  • Designed for cold climates — heats down to about −22 °F / −30 °C.
  • Most models are ENERGY STAR® certified.
  • Pre-charged with R454B for up to 25 ft per zone.
  • SEER ratings up to 28 (very efficient).
  • 5-year parts and 10-year compressor warranty.

Should I buy a multi-zone system or several single-zone units?

Multi-zone (one outdoor unit + several indoor heads):

  • Pros: saves outdoor space, can be more economical for multiple rooms, one larger condenser to maintain.
  • Cons: if the outdoor unit fails, all connected rooms are affected; all rooms must be in heating or cooling at the same time (not mixed).

Multiple single-zone systems:

  • Pros: more independence — if one unit fails, the others keep running; flexible control room by room.
  • Cons: higher total equipment and installation cost, more outdoor space needed for several condensers.

How do central (ducted) systems work?

Central systems connect to your existing ducts and heat or cool the entire house from one central unit.

  • We size the unit based on your home’s square footage.
  • Your existing ductwork must have a compatible airflow (CFM).
  • AUX heaters (on specific models) allow heating down to about −22 °F / −30 °C; without AUX heat, typical heating is down to 5 °F / −15 °C.

For central systems, we strongly recommend speaking with a licensed HVAC contractor or Senville Tech Support before purchasing.

Is it better to buy a bigger (oversized) unit “just in case”?

No. Oversizing can make the unit turn on and off too often (short-cycling). This can lead to higher energy bills, less comfort, and even moisture and mold problems. The best results come from a unit that is properly sized for your space.

Central systems: 3/4" & 3/8" lines, 7/16" & 5/8" flare — available in 16 ft and 50 ft (50 ft kits do not include communication wire).

33,000 BTU: 3/4" & 3/8" lines, 7/16" & 5/8" flare — available in 16 ft and 50 ft.

How many indoor units can each multi-zone condenser support?

Each multi-zone outdoor unit has a limited number of ports (indoor connections) and a set amount of pre-charged refrigerant:

  • SENA-18HF-MOA — 3 ports, 75 ft total (about 25 ft per port).
  • SENA-28HF-MOA — 4 ports, 100 ft total.
  • SENA-36HF-MOA — 5 ports, 125 ft total.
  • SENA-48HF-MOA — 6 ports, 150 ft total.

For HVAC professionals (maximum line lengths):

  • 18k compressor — up to 98.4 ft per head, 196.8 ft total.
  • 28k compressor — up to 114.8 ft per head, 262.4 ft total.
  • 36k compressor — up to 114.8 ft per head, 262.4 ft total.
  • 48k compressor — up to 114.8 ft per head, 262.4 ft total.

Single-zone maximum total line lengths:

AURA single-zone:

  • 6k / 9k / 12k — up to 82 ft total.
  • 18k — up to 98.4 ft total.
  • 24k / 33k — up to 164 ft total.

LETO single-zone:

  • 9k / 12k — up to 82 ft total.
  • 18k — up to 98.4 ft total.
  • 24k — up to 164 ft total.
  • 30k — up to 213.2 ft total.
  • 36k — up to 214 ft total.

Why can a multi-zone system handle more total BTUs than the condenser size?

Multi-zone systems rarely run all indoor units at full power at the same time. The outdoor unit can modulate capacity based on actual demand. That’s why the total connected BTUs can be higher than the nameplate rating.

Here are the approximate capacities by model:

  • SENA-18HF-MOA — Cooling: 28,000 BTU | Heating: 27,000 BTU
  • SENA-28HF-MOA — Cooling: 37,000 BTU | Heating: 36,000 BTU
  • SENA-36HF-MOA — Cooling: 43,000 BTU | Heating: 44,000 BTU
  • SENA-48HF-MOA — Cooling: 57,000 BTU | Heating: 57,000 BTU

Can I mix ceiling cassettes, wall mounts, concealed ducts, and floor units on a multi-zone system?

Yes. You can mix different indoor unit types (wall-mounted, cassette, concealed duct, floor-mounted) on the same compatible multi-zone condenser, as long as you stay within the BTU and line length limits for that model.

Are R410A products compatible with R454B products?

No. R410A and R454B systems are not cross-compatible. Always match indoor and outdoor units by model family and refrigerant type.

Can I convert my single-zone system into a multi-zone system?

No. Single-zone condensers only have one port and are designed to work with a single indoor head. They cannot be upgraded or converted into multi-zone systems.

Shipping, Returns & Damages

How long does shipping take?

  • USA: usually ships in 2–3 business days, then about 3–7 business days for delivery.
  • Canada: usually ships in 2–3 business days, then about 4–10 business days for delivery.
  • Hawaii: processing and shipping can take up to 3–4 weeks, plus up to 7 business days for final delivery.

What is your return policy and how do I start a return?

For both the USA and Canada, you have 30 days from delivery to return your purchase if:

  • The unit is not installed.
  • The unit is still in its original box and packaging.

A restocking fee of up to $150 may apply, depending on the product. Line sets included in bundles are non-returnable and non-exchangeable.

To start a return:

What if my order arrives damaged or missing parts?

If you receive a damaged unit:

If something is missing:

  • Call our sales department at 1-800-242-4935 ext. 1125.

Can I ship a product from the USA to Canada or from Canada to the USA if it’s out of stock in my country?

Generally no, unless you have a resident in the destination country to receive the shipment. Stock is managed by region and cross-border shipping is limited.

Where do replacement parts ship from?

All parts ship from our main office in Montreal, QC. This can affect delivery times, especially for orders going to the USA.

What does “open box” mean and how is the warranty different?

“Open box” units were previously purchased and returned, but not installed. They are inspected before resale and may have minor cosmetic marks that do not affect performance. Open-box units follow the same 30-day return policy as new units.

Warranty for open-box units:

  • SENA (AURA) open box: 7 years on the compressor, 3 years on parts (new units: 10/5).
  • SENL (LETO) open box: 5 years on the compressor, 2 years on parts (new units: 5/5).

Installation, Warranty & System Use

What does the extra warranty plan cover?

The additional 2–3 year protection plan works like an insurance policy. It helps cover theft and damage that is beyond repair, and it works alongside the standard manufacturer’s warranty.

Can I install the unit myself or do I need a licensed technician?

You can usually handle simple steps like mounting the indoor and outdoor units. However, the refrigerant lines are not pre-charged, and the system must be pressure-tested and vacuumed by a licensed HVAC technician.

For safety and to keep your warranty valid, refrigerant work must always be done by a certified professional.

Can line sets be connected together or shortened?

Line sets can be connected, but we only recommend this when done by a professional. Poor connections can cause leaks and performance issues.

  • In Canada, we sell brass unions to connect lines (not available in the USA).
  • We do not recommend shortening lines to less than 10 ft.

Can the unit dehumidify while heating?

No. Dehumidification mode is only available when the system is in cooling mode.

Can I run my Senville unit on solar power?

Senville units are not specifically designed for solar setups. Some customers have successfully used them with solar, but this requires careful planning. Always consult a licensed electrician and HVAC professional, and contact Senville Tech Support for guidance.

What is a SEER2 rating and why does it matter?

SEER2 (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures how efficiently a system cools over an entire season. A higher SEER/SEER2 rating means the unit uses less electricity to deliver the same amount of cooling, which can lower your energy bills.

What is included in the package and what do I need to buy separately?

Your Senville system includes most of what you need for a standard installation, except the power supply cable and installation labor.

Standard installation kit (typically 16 ft):

  • Insulated copper tubing
  • Communication cable
  • Wall sleeve for line penetration
  • Non-adhesive tape
  • 6 ft drain hose

If you choose 25 ft or 50 ft options, both the copper lines and control wire are sized accordingly. Compressors are pre-charged for 25 ft of line per port.

Wall, ceiling, and floor indoor units include a remote and wall holder. Concealed duct units and ceiling cassettes include a wall-mounted thermostat.

Popular add-ons (sold separately):

  • Wall brackets, ground stands, and rubber feet (recommended in snowy or humid areas).
  • 20 ft drain hose for longer runs (e.g., interior wall installations).
  • Line set cover kits to protect and hide the lines.
  • Wi-Fi accessories for compatible wall-mounted units (Alexa dongle included on many wall models; Google Home dongles sold separately).

Accessories, Thermostats & Controls

Do Senville systems include a condensate pump?

We do not sell stand-alone condensate pumps.

However, our ceiling cassette units include an integrated condensate pump.

Which units come with thermostats and which thermostats are compatible?

Ceiling cassettes and concealed ducts come with a wall-mounted thermostat. Wall-mounted units have built-in controls with a handheld remote.

Thermostat compatibility:

  • LETO: no compatible external thermostats listed.
  • AURA wall units: works with WRD-RMTIQ.
  • Ceiling cassette / floor mount / concealed duct: works with WRM-RM23.
  • Central SENDC (no Wi-Fi): works with WRD-RMT23.
  • Central SENDC with Wi-Fi: works with WRD-RMT25.

Can floor mounts, ceiling cassettes, or concealed ducts use a Wi-Fi dongle?

No. Our Wi-Fi kits are designed for specific wall-mounted units. Floor-mounted units, ceiling cassettes, and concealed ducts are not compatible with these Wi-Fi dongles.

Do AURA and LETO remote controls have a “Follow Me” function?

Yes. “Follow Me” lets the remote act like a thermostat so the unit responds to the temperature near the remote.

To activate it, press the SET button until you see a small person icon flash, then press OK to make it solid. Leave the remote within about 10 ft of the indoor unit for best results.

Can I buy line sets from another brand?

Yes, as long as they are copper, properly insulated, and not pre-charged. Pre-charged lines are not recommended for our systems.

Why do you recommend uncharged line sets instead of pre-charged lines?

Pre-charged lines:

  • Pros: quick and convenient.
  • Cons: fixed lengths, more risk of leaks or damage during shipping.

Empty (uncharged) lines:

  • Can be cut or sized for your specific installation.
  • Allow your installer to charge the exact amount of refrigerant for best performance.
  • Require proper tools (vacuum pump, nitrogen testing) and professional installation.
